Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon

In July 1999, after 7 years of residency, I graduated as a specialist in orthopedic surgery and traumatology from Saint Joseph University in Beirut and Paris Universities. I opted to practice in my native village of Zgharta in North Lebanon, following the state-of-the-art techniques taught by my Lebanese and French Masters.

It all began in 2000 when I started in introducing new concepts in orthopedic surgery, these concepts were considered per se as heretic especially when being proposed by young and unexperienced surgeons.

Nevertheless, I operated many patients suffering from shoulder instability or knee osteonecrosis using these new concepts with excellent clinical and radiological outcomes till today. Unfortunately these concepts remained unpublished and kept in files on my PC.

I was glad to discover that many years later, surgical teams from different university hospitals, have published many studies using these concepts.

The Journey into innovations continues and the return was in 2016 in the EFORT congress in Geneva when I presented a poster concerning the second case described in literature of bilateral avulsion of patellar apexes.

Two years after, in the 2018 EFORT congress in Barcelona, I presented a lecture about a rare and unique first case concerning the interest of using the Minithightrope device in the Sauve-Kapandji surgical intervention.

Lately, I published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery case connector in July 2021 another rare and unique first case of using dorsal plating in scaphoid nonunion with avascular necrosis.

Currently, I am working on a new concept of knee osteotomy in treatment of Patello Femoral instability.

In orthopedic surgery Innovation means that let’s get things moving; the moral of these words is to encourage everyone who has an innovative idea of work to publish it and to share it.

Nevertheless, either publishing innovative works using new concepts in orthopedic surgery or trying to give patients the best treatment they deserve is very challenging nowadays in Lebanon, there is still always hope and the courage to resist and to keep forwarding.
